I learned so much when putting this blog together. I have so many great memories of Midtown Lodge, we would stay them on almost every trip. I didn't know about the hotels that came before it though. White Oak Flats motel occupied the land first. The postcard on White Oaks Flats Motel reads "Located in the center of Gatlinburg, therefore offering you an ideal spot for your vacation headquarters. Offering you wall to wall carpeting, tile baths, cross ventilation, free swimming and The Beautiful Sky Room Restaurant are all offered for your convenience. For reservations write White Oak Motel box 111, Gatlinburg, phone 24575."
Eventually White Oak Flats Motel was torn down or heavily renovated into Travelodge. An old postcard from Travelodge says the following "A modern motel located in the heart of Gatlinburg covenant to the entrance of the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. Television - Tile Baths - Room Phones - Cross ventilation for your comfort. Our private swimming pool is heated and convenient to all units."
Midtown Lodge always held a special place in my heart, it was where we would usually stay on every vacation. It seemed to still hold that feeling of older Gatlinburg, I have so many great memories of it. It was conveniently located in the heart of Gatlinburg and a great spot to "people watch." as my aunt would call it.
I'm not sure the exact date on its closing, but I found an article from 2012 that talked about its demolition. Midtown was torn down, along with Traders Mall.
